Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is a Fusion Dance?

The term "Fusion" was coined since it 'fuses' two or more dances together. Dancers come together with experience from a variety of dances such as Blues, Lindy Hop, West Coast Swing, Tango, Waltz, Zouk, Kizomba, and other partner dances. Some dancers also bring vocabulary from solo dance forms such as hip hop or contemporary dance.

There is a lead and follow role, which may be switched during the dance. The dancers listen to the music and interpret that music through dance. Every dance is unique, depending on the vocabulary of each dancer.

A variety of music genres are played at a fusion dance, this creates an opportunity for dancers to explore their creativity and broaden their toolbag as they learn and incorporate new dance styles.

Q. What opportunities are available, if I want to get involved with Om Fusion?

We have a many opportunities available. Contact us for more information.

Q. What clothing should I wear?

Please wear clothing you are comfortable moving in. Many people choose to bring a change of shirt in case they get too sweaty. We recommend wearing shirts with backs, and shorts under skirts or dresses.  Also it is a good idea to avoid jewelry that could injure yourself or others.

Q. What shoes should I wear?

Dance shoes with leather or suede soles are recommended, though some people dance in bare feet or socks. If you are shoeless, please be aware that the likelihood of injury is higher. Try to avoid shoes with marking soles or stiletto heels that could damage the floor. If you’re going to wear street shoes, please wear shoes that are clean and dry.

Q. Is there food or drink allowed?

This is an all ages space, so there is no alcohol allowed. We encourage bringing food and drinks to share, but please keep them off the dance floor. Keep in mind many of our dancers have food allergies so it is considerate to label your contributions.
